This Is Not a Hotel with Tents Out the Back

Camp Leopard is a purpose-built safari camp at the edge of the Yala buffer zone. There is no lobby. There is no reception desk. There is no minibar. What there is: three named tents and one woodland cabin, each on a raised timber platform, each with air conditioning, an ensuite bathroom with hot and cold water, and a private veranda that looks out into the scrub.

The tents are named after leopards. Real leopards, from Yala's Block 1 and Block 5, that our rangers have tracked and photographed over the years. When you sleep in Nangi, you are sleeping under the name of the first leopard Marc ever photographed in the park. That is not branding. That is biography.

Maximum occupancy at any one time is 12 guests. Most nights it is fewer. You will not be sharing your safari vehicle with strangers, queuing for breakfast, or competing for a campfire seat. This is a small camp, deliberately kept small, because that is how a safari experience should work.

The Tents

Nangi — Tent #2 (Double, Sleeps 2)

Named after the first leopard Marc photographed in Yala. Nangi means "little sister" in Sinhala. She was a young female when Marc first tracked her in Block 1, and the photograph became the foundation image for Camp Leopard's early marketing. She is still resident in Block 1 today.

Nangi is a deluxe double tent on a raised wooden platform. Queen-size bed with quality linen. Air conditioning. Ensuite tiled bathroom with hot and cold running water, rain shower, and vanity. Private veranda with two chairs and a small table. Power outlets for charging. Complimentary bottled water, tea, and coffee.

Best for: Couples, solo travellers, or anyone who wants a quiet, intimate tent at the edge of camp.

Soththi — Tent #3 (Double, Sleeps 2)

Soththi means "small" in Sinhala. Named after a young male leopard first sighted in Block 5 as a cub. He was the smallest of his litter and the rangers named him with affection. Soththi has since grown into one of the more regularly sighted males in Block 5.

Soththi is identical in specification to Nangi: deluxe double tent, raised platform, queen-size bed, air conditioning, ensuite bathroom with hot water, private veranda. The tent is positioned slightly further from the communal area, offering additional privacy.

Best for: Couples, solo travellers, or guests who prefer a more secluded position within the camp.

Rajah — Tent #4 (Family, Sleeps 4)

Rajah is the dominant male of Block 5. He controls a large territory and is one of the most impressive leopards in the Yala complex. We named the family tent after him because he embodies strength, presence, and authority, qualities that resonate with families who take their children into the wild.

Rajah is a larger tent designed for families. It accommodates up to four guests: a queen-size bed for the parents and additional bedding for up to two children. Same raised platform, same air conditioning, same ensuite bathroom with hot water, same private veranda. Baby cots are available on request.

Best for: Families with children, small groups, or anyone who wants more space.

The Camp

Jungle Lounge

An open-sided communal area with comfortable seating, a small library of wildlife and Sri Lanka books, board games, and binoculars available for borrowing. This is where guests gather before and after safaris, and where the ranger briefings happen. Power outlets and WiFi are available here.

Dining Area

Open-air dining under a canopy. All meals are served here: arrival lunch, campfire dinner, packed safari breakfasts, and departure brunch. The table seats the full camp, which means meals are communal, social, and always accompanied by Sri Lankan cooking that guests consistently rate as the best they have eaten on the island.

Coffee Station

Available 24 hours. Ceylon tea, instant coffee, biscuits, and drinking water. For the 4:45am wake-up calls, the coffee station is the first stop before anyone speaks.

Hammock Zone

Strung between trees in the garden, the hammock zone is the designated afternoon decompression area. After a dawn safari and a large brunch, this is where most guests end up between 11am and 2pm. Books, binoculars, and the sound of birdcalls. No schedule. No agenda.

Note: Camp Leopard does not sell accommodation as a standalone product. Our tents are part of curated safari itineraries that include all meals, guided safaris with expert rangers, and camp experiences. To book, build your custom itinerary or view our packages.
